Report Synopsis

This briefing paper analyses India as an aid donor and an aid recipient. It also looks at other financial flows such as government revenues, foreign direct investment and remittances (both inward and outward) and poverty indicators such as multidimensional poverty at the Indian sub-national level.

In 2010 India’s gross national income (GNI) reached US$1.6 trillion, ranking it the ninth largest economy in the world; at the same time, it is estimated that over 40% of India’s population of 1.2 billion lives on less than US$1.25 a day. By 2020 India is expected to be the third largest economy in the world.
