Welcome to the 'data in Excel' area of the site, where we share the working datasets behind our analyses of humanitarian funding.
We've tried to break down our spreadsheets into downloadable chunks and components - if there's something you don't understand or can't find, please ask!
Also, we've tried to make sure that we've put a 'Notes' tab at the start of each Excel file, explaining our methodologies and/or original data sources and initial data download dates. And we've tried annotating some of the cells to explain workings.
We work in Excel 2007 and have saved our files in 1997-2003 'compatibility mode' ... this might mean a slight loss of functionality (in pivot tables and formatting for example) if you're working in an earlier version of Excel.
Have fun!

Official development assistance (ODA)

Official humanitarian assistance
The following files aim to show the methodology behind our official humanitarian assistance calculations as well as the overall volumes and basic data analysis.
UN consolidated appeals (CAP)
UN flash and consolidated appeal analysis 2000-2008
An 892KB GHA working file, based on FTS data downloaded 2 April 2009. It contains pivot tables and analyses of the flash and consolidated appeals since 2000 (requirements and needs met). As well as an overall summary, and summaries for each year, it also provides data and charts showing the five best and least well funded appeals each year and an analysis of consolidated versus flash funding.
