Its humanitarian aid is managed by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), a sub-agency of the Department for Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

CIDA has three priority themes that guide its development work: increasing food security; securing the future of children and youth and stimulating sustainable economic growth and it is also leading on the Muskoka Initiative, to improve maternal, new-born and child health.

Canada was last peer reviewed by the OECD DAC in 2007 and is an active member of the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) group.
